我怎麼也不能忘記：在去老山的途中，每當汽車沿盤山公路進人敵人封鎖區的時候，戰士們總是默默地將我們推向靠山的一面，讓自己的身體迎着暗處敵人的槍口。這就是説一旦有槍彈打來，首先倒下的，是戰士，而不是大學生。 ― 這太危險了!這太不應該了!同學們一再懇求：“咱們散開吧，散開點會安全些。”但戰士怎麼也不肯。一位同學流着眼淚搖晃着戰士的肩膀説：“難道你們的生命就不寶貴嗎?”戰士平靜地回答：“別這麼説，我們的任務就是保護你們，軍人的使命就是犧牲! ' ' 如果説，軍人的使命就是犧牲的話，那麼，我們，當代大學生的使命又是什麼呢?
記得在戰地醫院裏，當我看到一位被炸掉下肢的小戰土時，我哭了：“這太不公平了!”那位戰士卻拉着我的手説：“姐姐，別這麼説。將來，你們的貢獻要大得多了!因為你們是大學生啊。”我是大學生，是戰士用生命保衞的大學生，是國家花了很高的代價培養的大學生，是人民寄予無限希望的大學生。然而，扣心自問，我們中的一些人又都做了些什麼呢?慚愧呀!多少次，學生宿舍裏打撲克的喧囂聲徹夜不絕;多少次，在食堂裏，我們因飯菜問題而慷慨陳詞;多少次，我們為大學生的待遇“太低、太低”而抱怨;多少人，在畢業分配時，為了留校，為了進研究所，為了進機關單位，而絞盡腦汁，四處奔走，苦心鑽營。但在爭論所謂“人生的價值”時，卻能滿口馬列，大談奉獻! … … 這一切，與“驕子”的稱號，與人民和人民戰士心目中的大學生形象，與大學生應有的形象，有着怎樣的天壤之別呀!

面對英雄們如飢似渴地學習精神，我想了很多。我和他們，同是一個母親的孩子，拼搏在同一個時代的兩個戰場。他們，已將一張張滿分的人生答卷奉獻給母親。正像他們在詩中寫的：“如果我在戰鬥中犧牲/我決不為自己的選擇後悔/也不希望哪位姑娘在我的墳前獻上一束玫瑰/只要有和平、安寧的邊睡/我的生命就與這羣山萬壑同輝!”
如果説，這就是戰士 ― 我們的同齡人用青春譜寫的英雄曲的話，我們的英雄曲又是什麼呢?難道我們後方的青年，就沒有英雄曲嗎?不!請聽吧：“雖然母親如此貧窮/兒女對她的愛毫不含糊/長嘯一聲：振興中華/熾熱的感情發自靈魂深處。”
南疆血火交迸的戰場，把前方戰士和後方青年的心緊緊地連在了一起。在和戰士告別的時候，一位偵察兵懇求我的同學：“給我寫首詩吧。”那位同學説：“今天來不及了，等我回到天津以後，我一定寫好多好多給你寄來。”那位戰士搖搖頭説：“不，過兩天，我就要到最前線去，我會給你寫信的;但是，你的信，我可能永遠也收不到了。”我的同學再也無法抑制內心的激動，抓起筆，在戰士的本子上飛快地寫道：“英雄鐵騎沙場馳，道聲珍重淚眼濕，可盼我輩重聚首，笑看祖國騰飛時。”
青年朋友們，大學生們!雖然我們沒有在戰場流血犧牲的機會，但是，讓我們在建設祖國的鬥爭中，貢獻大些、更大些吧!當我們的同齡人 ― 英雄戰士們從前線凱旋的時候，當我們前線、後方兩路大軍勝利會師的時候，讓我們手挽手、肩並肩，問心無愧地同聲高唱：祖國振興的功勛章啊，有你的一半，也有我的一半!
中國青年，決非幾條英雄好漢，而是，整整一代英雄!
