The exact origins of duan wu are unclear, but one traditional view holds that the festival memorializes the chinese poet qu yuan of the warring states period. he committed suicide by drowning himself in a river because he was disgusted by the corruption of the chu government. the local people, knowing him to be a good man, decided to throw food into the river to feed the fishes to prevent them from eating qu's body. they also sat on dragon boats, and tried to scare the fishes away by the thundering sound of drums aboard the boat and the fierce looking dragon-head in the front of the boat.

In the early years of the chinese republic, duan wu was also celebrated as "poets' day", due to qu yuan's status as china's first poet of personal renown.

Today, people eat zongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fishes) and race dragon boats in memory of qu's dramatic death.

"May 5th, it is the sun. The door is planted with ai, the incense is full. Eat zongzi, sprinkle white sugar. The dragon boat is in the water." Hearing this song, let me think of the Dragon Boat Festival. The fifth day of may is the traditional festival of the Dragon Boat Festival.

The sachets are made of cotton and silk, and in addition to a few realgar and canopies, they are also made with herbs and spices, which can be worn with the help of the insect repellent. The five silk threads represent the five color dragon, which can be lowered into the evil spirits.

The Dragon Boat Festival is about eating zongzi. In the morning, every family eats zongzi commemorative qu yuan. It is usually the day before the dumplings are wrapped, cooked at night, and eaten in the morning. Bao zongzi is mainly made of tender reed leaves that are abundant in the river, and it is also useful for bamboo leaves. Date zongzi sounds like "early middle", so eat date zongzi the most, the child that is intended to read to eat can be early and middle of the top pick. The reader to participate in the imperial examination on the same day, in the morning to eat jujube reed, since middle school, the university entrance exam day morning, parents also need to do jujube reed for the examinee.

Dragon boat racing is the main custom of the Dragon Boat Festival. Legend has it that the ancient people of the state of chu were forced to die in the river, and many people rowed to the rescue. They rushed to the lake and disappeared. The dragon boat is then on May 5 each year. Use the dragon boat to disperse the fish in the river, so as not to eat the body of qu yuan.

The Dragon Boat Festival is really an interesting traditional festival!

Bao zongzi, first of all to wash the leaves of the leaves, soak in hot water. When you prepare dates, eggs, meat and other things, you will be ready to start. Fold the long leaves, fold them up, make a nest, and put them in the middle of a mixture of glutinous rice and glutinous rice. Then place the trap in the rice, knead it together, and finally make the four corners of the zongzi wrapped in the leaves.

This package zongzi is all in the last process, your zongzi bag is very bad, it is to see whether the four angles are symmetrical, whether there is a type. When I began to learn, I always had four corners, not six corners, but a ball.

Grandma more than once looked at my masterpiece and laughed. "this, can you call it zongzi? Where do you want the thin line?"

I'm dizzy! The emotional dumplings are made of four angles that are easily tied up in thin lines. How can you not have a round zongzi in the world?

Cook the dumplings in a pot and cook them for about an hour. Cook them for 30 minutes.

In the course of cooking zongzi, I always have to reveal the situation. Because the aroma of the dumplings was wafted from the pan, and it made my mouth water.

It was always a long wait, and I was dancing with joy when I saw the steaming hot dumplings coming out of the pan. Crack in a bowl, chopsticks, you can see inside the golden soft "reed meat", a bite, delicious, I almost even chopsticks to bite down.
